The Outlawz Progressive Freebie Challenge

I can't believe that the Outlawz Progressive Freebie challenge group has finished off its first year! Just 12 months ago, this group wrangled twelve wonderful sponsors to give away a digital image to every crafter who participated the previous month. The group must have given away images to hundreds of crafters around the world!!
Are you one of them? All you have to do is join the Outlawz Network and sign up to join the Progressive Freebie challenge group. And wait until you see who this coming year's sponsors are!
This month, we get to play with a cutie from All Dressed Up called "Happy Christmas Little Star."
I wanted a card I could easily mail so, while I loaded up my card with elements and embellishments, it still remains relatively flat. I started with a handmade flower made with torn pieces of newspaper, then inked and shimmer sprayed it. The Christmas tree is a die-cut, and the star is "glitterized". My border is made up of ribbon and lace.
My dainty little girl is colored with Copics and her wings have been doused in very fine glitter so she is ready to dance with happiness and then fly off should anyone interrupt her.

Your Scrapbook Place has reached its midpoint in October's challenge. I created a step card for halloween with this awesome digi image from Faery Art. It's called Skullie Girl. I think it's a good mix or spooky and sweet, perfect for one of my grandkids.
I'm seeing them for Halloween, and have their candy ready. Now I have all their cards as well!
Everything on the card is from my stash except the image. In fact, the foam stars were bought at least three years ago!!! Yay me for cleaning out more of my stash.

It's September already?! What happened to August?! Well, they say that time flies when you're having fun, and I have been having fun with this too-cute image from SLS Lines. She's called "Bookworm in the Library" and I made this card as my DT project for Your Scrapbook Place Anything Goes September challenge.
After coloring her with my trusty Copics, I tore her (second fave technique) and popped her onto CTMH patterned paper. There wasn't much room for a lot of embellishments, so I made it simple with a bit of ribbon, a handmade bow, a snall pearl flourish and a couple jewels. my sentiment reads: "It's alwasy better to have too many books than not enough." At least, that's what I believe!! How about you?
I love to read, and I am on the waiting list for the Maze Runner book series. I saw the first movie, and while I liked it, I figured there was a lot more to it than what the movie showed. i never judge a book by its movie. So now I have the first three books to look forward to reading. The question is, shuld I read the second book before seeing the second movie and be disappointed? Or should I wait until after the movie to get "behind the scenes" so to speak?
While I wait for the library to call with that series, I am reading (again) a Jude Deveraux book entitled "Sweet Liar." What are you reading??

Di's Digi Stamps Sponsoring the Outlawz Greetings This Week

I love to listen to music while I craft--do you? So many songs inspire me. I am an eclectic music lover, in that I love all kinds of music. This cute image I used from Di's Digi Stamps, this month's sponsor at the Outlawz Greetings challenge reminded me of a really, really old song. I wasn't around when it first came out, but I remember singing it when I was little ( the song was recorded by Doris Day on records that came BEFORE vinyl!):

The digi image is called "Drinky Mice for Two" and I colored it with Copics, adding some white gel pen to highlight. I'm still using up the papers in that re-discovered box I found in my closet. I promised myself NOT to buy any more paper until the box is empty. LOL

A new month brings warmer weather in my part of the world, and a new challenge at the Outlawz Progessive Freebie challenges. If you played in last month's challenge, you will receive this lovely image from Anne's Digital Art. It is called Poppies.
After coloring my flower with Copics, I sponged a little sky blue onto my background. I popped it onto some textured paper, doodling in the faux stitching on the edges, then stamping my sentiment.
I added this to my stitched card front and added a tiny butterfly charm and my card is complete. I love this time of year, when flowers are just starting to bloom and colors abound everywhere you look. And the scents are heavenly! I just wish I didn't have so many allergies. Do you suppose they have anything to do with the flowers?! LOL

When I read the challenge at Ike's World Challenge blog, I didn't know if I were up to it! Patterned paper is my middle name!! LOL
My box of re-discovered papers still sits on my desk, and is amazingly getting lighter every day! Since I had the papers and (always) my Copics at hand, I QUICKLY found a stitched piece of cardstock. I have also placed a small file box on my table where I have been tossing excess supplies with which I may create within the week. and die-cut. So I managed to create this card using NO PATTERNED PAPERS and super fast, which for me was stepping way out of my comfort zone.
I colored up this fantastic Ike's Art image called Muse 6 using Copics, giving her some interesting stripes in her hair (I was just in that mood). Then I adhered to a stitched piece of cardstock a die-cut that was given to me in a swap before adding my fussy-cut image.
I embellished simply with a butterfly a few pearls and a sentiment. I kept the card two-toned, although the blue paper of the sentiment and the diecut embellie are also blue but hard to tell in my photo.

Use Fabric Today at the Outlawz Geetings Challenge

Today brings a new challenge from the Outlawz Greetings, one with a little (or a lot of) fabric on our projects. That's right, my crafty peeps, the challenge is to drag out any type of fabric to use on your card, tag, ATC, canvas, anything your little crafting heart desires to create. Of course, the Numero Uno requirement is to make sure there's a sentiment on the front of your project. That is, of course, why we are called the GREETINGS challenge group. LOL
I am not a sewing person. The only fabric I have on hand is fleece, because I make those cute blankets with the tied edges for children's hospitals. And believe me, fleece did not play well with my card!
So I rummaged through drawers and closets and finally found a piece of fabric I could use. (I really wanted some nice burlap so I could pull on the edges and get all fringe-y with my card) What I found was a tattoo sleeve leftover from a Halloween past, as in a few years past. It's (or rather was) made of stretchy nylon material, so I cut cardboard and cardstock and adhered my fabric to its "frame," then placed it on a card base of cardstock and white-dotted vellum.
Did I mention that the sponsor this week at the Outlawz Greetings challenge is the fabulous Dee Dee's Digis? I got to play with "In Season.", which includes outline, layering and colored images of trees in all four seasons and several sentiments! I used the colored version of Spring tree and one of the sentiments for my card. I framed each on red cardstock before placing them on my fabric-colored card. A small white paper doily sprinkled with pink shimmery flowers decorate my little "canvas. I also added some fibers  and glittered the tiny flowers on the just-blossoming tree.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

April brings many things, like longer days, crocuses blooming, birdsong in the early morning, and rain showers. Along with showers come rainbows. I have been very lucky to witness many rainbows where I live. When I see them I turn into a kid again, standing with my mouth open in wonder and awe at the beauty imprinted on the sky.
I created my card using two digital papers from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles. Lisa has a delicious assortment of papers, embellishments and sentiments, and I used a couple to create my card today for the Outlawz Greetings challenge. The theme this week is April Showers and/or Rainbows.
I chose a textured cardstock and a patterned paper for my project. After printing my sentiment (inspired by the movie Wizard of Oz, the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow) straight onto the papers in Photoshop, I colored up a couple cute birds from the Fred She Said set called Emma the Caroler. I fussy-cut them and popped them onto my scene. Then I had my way with the embellishments I had left on my desk from a previous project. Here are the papers I chose for this card:

Rock That Card

"I love rock & roll" is what my card today says. I love this image from Kenny K, called Rock Chick. I got to play with her for the newest Craft Your Passion challenge starting today.
After coloring Rock Chick, I framed her in cardstock, distressed the edges with Tim Holtz Tattered Roses ink, and added a tiny piece of leftover sticker.
I had fun creating my card background. Some Prima patterned paper sets the mood, and various trim and stickers highlight her passion.

Animals is the theme at the Outlawz Greetings challenges this week. One of the guest sponsors this month is Dr. Digi, so when I saw this funny digi image (called Rescue Squad), I knew I had to poke some fun at Mother Nature and her ill-timed return to winter temps that Chicago has...no, not enjoyed...rather, suffered through this Spring. So, I still haven't found what I'm looking for...Spring weather!
 I colored my crack team with Copics, popped them on patterned paper from my bottomless stash of leftover papers, and drummed up the perfect sentiment to go with them: "Springtime Greetings from Chicago (Send Help)."
Besides a few snowflakes and a bow, I colored up a pretty (cold) robin to add salt to the wound (sigh). I shouldn't complain. It is Chicago, after all. I was born and raised here, and chose to return to the Windy City. In my next life, I shall choose more wisely, maybe midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Of course, with my luck, the California coast will sink into the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes a known evil is better than an unknown evil.

Hope Springs Eternal

Today brings a quick reminder that very very soon (April 1) I will be celebrating another year of glorious life on this planet with a Birthday Blowout. For my card today, I wanted to help those still in the throes of winter temps, like Chicago. We had one fantastic day of Spring, where short sleeved shirts and capris could be seen against a background setting of mucky old hills of icy snow. Well, the snow finally melted, but Spring hid from our cheers and temps fell back into the 30s and 40s.
So I created this card to warn my peeps to be cautious in welcoming Spring. She's a little shy this year. I colored her with Copics, then popped her onto a shimmery card from DCWV. I added ribbon, jeweled flowers, a butterfly charm, a couple pearls, and even doodled a tad on one edge. My sentiment continues from the word "Shh" to the inside of the card, which reads, "You'll scare away Spring."

Paper Piecing is Not My Thing, but...

Paper piecing is generally not my thing, but I don't back down on a challenge-not when it gives me a chance to stretch out of my comfort zone and grow in creativity. So I DIDN'T color up an image from Ike's Art called "New Baby." What I did was printed it on patterned papers, and pieced it together.
After frantically searching for papers that would try to realistically feature the mother's hand and baby's feet, I stopped, took a breath and laughed at myself. "Come on Pat," I told myself. "You are reaching out of your little creative box, so why bother with realism?" my goodness, I didn't know I was so wise! LOL
So I picked a paper with word art themed around the entity we call mom; then I chose another paper to coordinate, and my image is pieced! I added a sweet sentiment and framed it with a paper doily. Hmm, too plain on that card stock background (my next battle will be with white space). So I popped on some cute baby-themed buttons, that lovely border of trim. Not enough! so I doodled a few tiny white hearts on any un-embellished space and my card was finished.

Anything Goes at the Outlawz Greetings Challenges

Time for another challenge from the Outlawz Greetings, and it's my favorite kind - ANYTHING GOES!! I love the freedom that is enjoyed in an Anything Goes challenge. How About you? Do you get inspired by having requirements for your projects, or does it matter? In fact, where do you find your inspiration? I love Pinterest and other crafters' blogs, but if I'm not near my computer, then I pull out all my lovely papers (my precioussss) and get inspired by their colors and designs.
Today it was a feather sticking out of my painting drawer. I thought it would look pretty with a pale flower, which led to my papers, and then I wanted a silly image.
My silly image is from Robyn's Fetish and is called "Be Kind to Your Web-footed Friends". Robyn's Fetish is one of this month's sponsors, and I like to surf their store for inspiration (and shopping).
I colored my image gently, with just a few Copics. Doesn't it remind you of Jack & the Beanstalk? Wish it would lay me a couple golden eggs.
Leftover pieces of patterned papers help to decorate my background, along with a stray piece of ribbon. The sentiment (a necessity for the Outlawz Greetings challenges) was in a file of leftover punchies as well. I am serious this year about not buying more stash. Finally, I tossed on a few jeweled flowers to embellish and my card is complete.

Inching My Way toward a New Outlawz Greetings Challenge

Today the Outlawz Greetings asks crafters to measure up--by using INCHIES on their projects! I made a few inchies to decorate my card ala subway art theme. Then I colored up and cut out my image from DeeDee's Digis.

The image sheet is called "Whole Latte Love" and comes with two different latte cups and several sentiments. I used the sentiment "a little love to go." My paper used to be 12x12 patterned paper for scrapbooking, but I found a piece in my stash and used it for my card. I liked the mosaic look so much that I made my inchies from 1 inch squares of the tiny blocks, matting them onto gold cardstock. I placed a few of them into the design on my paper, and arranged the rest to continue the design on the card. 

To make the to-go cup pop (literally), I cut two slits and eased the edges of the cup cover into them, bending my image forward to give it the look of a rounded cup. I placed a sweethearts brad into the cup, and added a couple more around my "canvas." I added some pearls and a flower as embellishment and my to-go card will be standing on my hubby's desk when he gets up on Valentine's Day.

Happy Birthday Bugaboo!

Today I created a birthday card for one of my fave digital image companies--Bugaboo is celebrating its 5th birthday in business! There's a huge celebration on her blog-you don't want to miss it!
Meanwhile, I created my card for the Birthday Bash Sketch Challenge. After using my Epic Six to cut out an oval frame, I used a white gel pen to make a Bugaboo background before popping my Copic-colored image, Cookie Dottie. You can't see the shimmer I gave her, but it's there. After all, she's working up quite a sweat getting refreshments ready for the party!
I stamped the sentiment onto a vellum tag, adding the butterfly (just 'cause). A few jeweled flowers float over her shoulder, and my card is complete.

Brand New Challenge at the Outlawz Starts Today - Freebie Progressive!

Today I made a card for the grand opening of a new challenge at the Outlawz. It's the new monthly Freebie Progressive Challenge, running from December 1st through the last day of the month, and repeating each month of 2015.
Their first sponsor is Simply Betty Stamps, and does she have a lot of great images to choose from. We all got to use the image above, called Tangled Wednesday, to kick off the new challenge. And guess what? You can too!
The rules are very simple: join the challenge, send them an email to outlawzprogressivechallenge@gmx.com and then enter a project made with the image supplied before 6:00pm Outlawz Time on the last day of the month and you will automatically get the next image free. Now, who doesn't like FREE?!
So, on to my card. The image is, as I wrote, called Tangled Wednesday. I colored her with my trusty Copics, adding a little shine to her image. As she's tangled with Christmas tree lights, I added an over-sized Christmas bulb to the end of her card. My colors didn't photograph well, but they really are all shades of teal.

New Challenge with a Twist at SBP Challenge Blog

Today SBP Challenge Blog offers crafters a Sketch with a Twist challenge.  One random winner will receive their choice of digi images at Creative Bug Digis.

I diecut the image with a flower die from Spellbinders Nestabilities!! The tag slips behind the sentiment. All papers used were leftovers from my not-so-secret stash, as in the elephant in the room!

I had so much fun making a card with this sketch and using a CBD digi image that I made a second one using an image called "Twigs."

Here, I placed a snowflake in the flower's center, tilted the image the other way, and stamped my sentiment onto a duo of tiny tags. Again, I used leftovers from my infamous file drawer of leftovers.

I hope you've been inspired to try creating with a sketch. I rarely start my projects with a sketch or plan. I usually get an a-ha moment and dash off to my craft room to see if it would work.

Anything Goes is the Challenge

Got some time to craft over the weekend and colored up this pretty image from Art by MiRan.
I used up some paper pieces from my stash to make a background, then framed my Copic-colored image, called "Catching Hearts."
I embellished simply with a few candy heart brads and a charm I placed in the middle of a paper flower.
I'm entering my card in the Anything Goes challenge at Art by Miran. And as soon as payday comes along, I will be adding to my Art by Miran inventory.  I LOVE these cute images.
