I'm Being Followed by a Moon Shadow...

Today's post features a little doodling and some creative paper cutting. It started out as a full-page Zen doodle, but I messed up a large part of the doodle. Should I turn the page and start over? No, I thought I could improve upon my mistakes "happy little accident".

Since I drew the doodle in a perfect circle, the the thought of a moon popped into my head. A moon with flowers?? Yes, have you never heard of the Flower Moon, which blooms at the start of Spring? It's a little bigger than a crescent, and using  powerful telescope, you can see the outlines of flowers where the "hidden" part of the moo lies in the night sky.

I cut out a crescent shape from some designer paper for the part of the moon that shines down on the Earth. It covered up the imperfect doodles that came out of my pen. To keep both sides of the moon  cohesive, I used a yellow colored pencil to fill in between the flowers I drew. Not enough to make a difference, I added a little shading within each flower with same colored pencil.

I cut out a circle from some shimmery dark blue paper and framed my flower moon. I sprinkled this night sky with stars, using my Posca white paint marker. Look, there's s shooting star.

Make a wish!

Time to Emboss at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog

It's that time of month for a new challenge at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog. For the ext 30 days, you are challenged to let your embossing powers rule the craft table. Wet embossed, dry embossed, hand embossed, machine embossed - whatever your Muse tells you to create, Scribbles Designs wants to see it!

I used a leftover piece of embossed cardstock to frame my paper-pieced image from the Scribbles Store. I love this image- it's called 952 Tea Cup Stack. I printed my image out on a few digital patterned papers, then fussy-cut each cup with a different paper. I think the stack turned out well, don't you?

After centering it onto my embossed "frame" I added the sequins, metal sentiment and silk ribbon flower to embellish. I have a new neighbor who I wave to when I walk our dog, Wilson. She loves to drink tea, so this card will be going to her this weekend. Although she might want to switch to iced tea. The temps in Chicago will be in the upper 80s!! Unseasonably high for this time of year, but at least my tomatoes have more time to ripen.

I hope to see your card or project at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog! Good luck and happy crafting!

The Game is Afoot at Ike's World Challenge Blog

March is my month for experimentation, and I enjoyed my paper piecing adventure last week so much that I decided to try one more time.
Today's card features a digi image from Ike's Art called Sherlock. Since he's all about deduction, I used a typography patterned paper to use for his clothing. After coloring the parts not pieced with paper, I added a quote from one of the books in his series, reading "I cannot live without brain work. What else is there to live for?"
Why, it's elementary, my dear Sherlock! Life and living is all about discovering yourself, your talents, your passion, your creativity. What else is there to live for?! LOL
ow about trying paper piecing in your projects this week, then join in on the challenge at Ike's World Challenge Blog.

Paper Piecing is Not My Thing, but...

Paper piecing is generally not my thing, but I don't back down on a challenge-not when it gives me a chance to stretch out of my comfort zone and grow in creativity. So I DIDN'T color up an image from Ike's Art called "New Baby." What I did was printed it on patterned papers, and pieced it together.
After frantically searching for papers that would try to realistically feature the mother's hand and baby's feet, I stopped, took a breath and laughed at myself. "Come on Pat," I told myself. "You are reaching out of your little creative box, so why bother with realism?" my goodness, I didn't know I was so wise! LOL
So I picked a paper with word art themed around the entity we call mom; then I chose another paper to coordinate, and my image is pieced! I added a sweet sentiment and framed it with a paper doily. Hmm, too plain on that card stock background (my next battle will be with white space). So I popped on some cute baby-themed buttons, that lovely border of trim. Not enough! so I doodled a few tiny white hearts on any un-embellished space and my card was finished.
I am entering my card in Ike's World Challenges blog. The theme is paper piecing and I double dog dare you to play along!! LOL
And remember, crafters--have fun!!

Summer is Almost Here

Well, today was a good day to explore mixed media showcasing a QKD set of digi images from the Queen herself, Vicky D!  The set is called Patchwork Spring and is available in the QKD Shoppe!

I used a manila folder cut to 6x6 for my base, adding a piece of patterned paper.   Next I Mod Podged a square of tie-dye patterned designer napkin, adding some ink to distress it, as well as  the "shadow" cut of a peacock.

After printing the digi set on several pieces of patterned paper, I paper-pieced each flower, adhered it to my "garden" and added stems and leaves.  Same with the butterfly and dragonfly!

I added to the over-all effect with black and white gel pens, pulling out the "bones" of each image, and the highlighting them.  I wish you could touch my card--it certainly has a different "feel" to it!

Have you discovered a technique you want to try?  Did you "pin" something you want to explore?  Now's the time to "get 'er done", and a QKD digi like this set would be a perfect starting point for you!!

Happy crafting!
