If Mother Goose Had a Cat

In my spare time (you know, waiting in the doctor's office, trying to get back to sleep at 3am, sitting on the toilet, etc.,), I like to sketch. I'm not great, but I think I have good ideas. Today I'm showing you my not-great-but-funny-idea sketch. It's an addendum on an old nursery rhyme.

Please let me know if you think the idea behind this is funny. I usually create cards that are funny, punny or have a punchline. I mostly use stamped and digital images but thought I would poke out of my creative box little, so comments appreciated...

Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween - DAY 24

There's a thrift store near me (well, an hour away) where everything in the store is 50% off on Mondays!! So I had purchased some Halloween goodies (as in crafting supplies) before the hordes came and polished it all off. This is one of my finds from 2 months ago.

I had to do a little repair painting, as well as drew a few Halloween symbols and lettering to get it up to snuff. I also upcycled my "new" wall art by adding the bow at top, a sticker here and there and making a small broom out of a chopstick and pipe cleaners (now known as chenille sticks). There used to be little numbers to hang on this but since they were MIA, I put the broom on the hooks and changed "days 'til" to "almost". I also added the words broom parking.

Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween - DAY 17

How's the weather where you live? October started in like a lamb, with unusual temps in the mid 70s, cooling off at night to around mid fifties. But as we near October 31, I know it's going to get nasty. Most years the weather is beautiful right up until the Monday before trick-or-treating. Bummer for the kids who want to show off their costumes.
Today I upcycled a wooden cat figurine. It was originally pink and cute, but 'tis the season so I first out on its black coat. By the time I finished using my white Posca marker, the cat became a hybrid sugar skull skeleton. I couldn't decide on cute or creepy, and I got what you see here!
While photographing my project, I decided to make the background black & white. Now the cat looks like he's camouflaged into the background. LOL I've put him in my window. I almost put him in between the glass and screen facing in, but my dog was not very happy with that! So Mr. Bones is facing out and behind the blinds most of the day.

Welcome to 31 Days of Halloween - DAY 7

I got out my canvases and acrylic paints today! Although I used black canvases, I always like to paint them black as well. That's so the rest of the paint doesn't get soaked into the canvas. After the background paint dried, I drew out the shape of my ghost with a white Posca paint marker, then his eyes.

After painting the ghost and letting it dry, I used the marker again for the letter B and my BOO canvas is complete. I created three of these and put them in frames. Easy, peasy. One for each window in my living room...oops, just sold one to my neighbor!!

I'm Seeing Spots!

I'm always looking on Pinterest and YouTube for another design, technique or materials to try out. I stumbled onto this "dotty" design and thought I'd try it out. It looks pretty good; better in person. But it's true that right now I am seeing spots everywhere!

If you attempt this type of doodling, I'd recommend you draw it in small doses, taking a break for your eyes! LOL  Meanwhile, my "new" art journal is filling up fast. It seems I only have time (or energy) for some quick drawing. I should be able to spend more tine on painting and crafting starting next week. Yay, me!!

Let Them Eat Cake...

Today I'm featuring one more Zen doodle. It started with a rectangle, and after adding a smaller one on top of the first one, I was inspired to make it into a cake. It has four tiers, which is a whole lot of cake!

But it looked lonely by itself in the middle of my page. So I added some decorations at the top, then some along the bottom. I am NOT a lover of white space, so I thought a few balloons would complete the drawing. and it does, so my work here is finished, at least for today.

I mentioned in an earlier post how I have several different kinds of journals going at the same time. Well, I have one filled with "future projects", and I need to start trying some of those I've listed instead of being distracted by new pins on Pinterest or supplies I uncover while cleaning out and organizing my crafting area.

Once my sister goes back to Germany and her hubby, I can take some quality time with those supplies and create at my leisure. I'm itching to paint, and I have empty shadow boxes lying in the dark, calling my name to fill with holiday scenes. Oh, so many projects, so little time! LOL

Zen House in the Garden - an Art Journal Page

I got a chance to create some Zen Doodling in my art journal today. I'm trying to decide whether to color the sky blue. Or to leave it uncolored. Who knows! I may decide to put together pages for a coloring book, but now is not the time in my life. I have a To-do list that is mind boggling-at least to my mind. So I'll happily feature my new drawing here on Blogger. I hope you like it.

As a side note, Zen doodling is very relaxing. Focusing on each line or squiggle you create, being mindful of the contrasts you want to showcase, I feel like I've taken a nap within my mind when I doodle. I hope you get a chance to try the benefits of this kind of art.

New Challenge at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog

The optional theme over at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog is to "use a sentiment". My DIL is a photographer, Camille T Photography, and she took this amazing photo of her daughter (former cheerleader) accomplishing an awesome jump on the beach. It just so happens that I found the perfect sentiment in the Scribbles Designs Store. It reads:
"Funny how in Dreams
your feet never touch the Earth"
I printed out the sentiment, cut it out and placed it on the photo. Then I used some deliciously colorful patterned paper from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles from her Bokeh Paper Kit. Want to hear a funny story about this card? I decided to make a set of four of them and bagged them for a recent craft fair. The set didn't sell, but my girlfriend, (who just happens to be the other grandmother to the girl in the photo), saw the cards and bought them! She was delighted when I told her who the girl was.
When you create this month, don't forget to link your card or project up at the Scribbles Designs main blog for your chance to win free digis from the Scribbles Designs Store. Good luck and happy crafting!

Today I'm Thinking of You

Especially when Squigglefly offers us a new challenge this week!  The theme is ANYTHING GOES with 2 guides:  use a Squigglefly image and the sentiment is "Thinking of You."
My card today features a digi image from artist Diana Garrison.  It is an August new release, along with so many other fabulous images.

I was continuing my ruthless clean-out of my craft room, and when I reached into a photo box labeled "paper" I pulled out this gorgeous  double-sided black and white patterned paper.  Using a Nestabilities die, I framed my Copic-colored image onto black cardstock.  The result?  PLAIN!

So I fussy-cut from the other side of my pp a coordinating border, but the card still missed its mark.  Adding a row of pearls and a stick pin for embellishment helped, but it wasn't until I used my white gel pen to hand draw patterns onto the background that it came together.

I added a charm to the image's bud vase, as well as a tiny bit of Stickles, to finish off my card.

So how about you finish off a card using a Squigglefly image and enter it into the Squigglefly Challenge blog for a chance to win a free digi! Go check out the Squigglefly Facebook page for some inspiration, too!
