Shades of Yellow on the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog This Month

What kinds of thoughts and feelings do you have of when you think about the color yellow? For some, the different colors of yellow bring thoughts of warmth, light, happiness, remembrance and hope. Did you know that the sunflower is the official symbol of ALS? After my husband passed away, my daughter got a sunflower tattoo on her ankle in her dad's memory.

For others, the color yellow can evoke thoughts of sickness, weakness or jealousy. Too much yellow disturbs calmness in others, especially babies. Infants cry more in rooms painted yellow (weird but true).

Yellow gemstones are believed to boost confidence and clarity in making decisions. I'll have to remember that the next time someone wants to buy me a diamond ring (make it a yellow one, honey).

Today I get to show how shades of yellow inspire me by creating a birthday card. I think yellow is a bright and cheerful color to celebrate a birthday. I've used a pre-colored image from Imagine That's "Giraffe with Butterflies" set. The background is a photo my gf's daughter took while doing missionary work in Cambodia. See that bridge behind my image? She helped build that!

In the Good Old Summer Time at the Outlawz Greetings Challenges

Happy summer, crafters! For those in the northern hemisphere, that means sunny days and hot weather. This week at the Outlawz Monday greetings challenge, the theme is Summer Recreation. What do YOU do to keep cool and active?
This week's summer brings Lacy Sunshine to sponsor and inspire us. I colored up this pretty image called Sandy Boo - Collecting Seashells. Using Copics, I extended the beach from which she is gathering her shells. After popping her onto an embossed and inked card face, I embellished with twine and tiny colorful seashells. My sentiment says it all.
Do you play beach volleyball? Swim at the local pool? Play tennis or roller blade? Whatever you choose for recreation, let it inspire you to create something for this week's challenge at the Outlawz Greetings. Don't forget to keep hydrated as you craft! LOL

Anything Goes at the Outlawz Monday Greetings

Today brings us a new challenge at the Outlawz Monday Greetings. And they also have two sponsors-that's twice the prizes offered this week! My first card uses the digi "Wine Bottle w/Glass" from Angie's Cards & Digis. My sentiment was inspired by the theme song from the movie "Cabaret." However, the theme this week is Anything Goes!
After coloring my image with Copics, I added a little dimension with white gel pen. My papers, die-cuts and embellishments are all pulled from my magic bag of leftovers (magic because it seems to be bottomless). I think my color scheme of pink, green and ivory work well here, don't you?

My second card today uses a digi image from Creative Bug Designs, also sponsoring the Outlawz Monday Greetings this week.

I colored an image called "Look at Me, Lolly." I love that he's peeking through a hole just to greet us! I found this fabulous paper (again, stash is endless) and popped him smack in the middle of the "rays" of sunshine, thereby inspiring me to continuously hum "Hello Sunshine" by Aretha Franklin from 1968.

I adhered tiny jewels around my circle of sunshine and added some sequins for sparkle. After adding some fiber for texture, I die-cut my song-inspired sentiment, and my card is complete. Now if I could just get the song out of my head...

Summer's Blooms Leave Us Wanting More

I love Progressive Freebie challenges, and the Outlawz Freebie Challenges has a new challenge and a new sponsor. I created a tag card, covering it with CTMH paper from my stash (who am I kidding, it's ALL from my stash LOL). After coloring her, I popped her out and framed her with a large flower. I found a quote I like for a Thank You card, then plunged into my bin of flowers and had my way with them. I finished off my card with a bit of wide ribbon and more flowers and it's ready to head out to a very generous woman who offered up a few weeks of her summer off by volunteering in several programs offered by my church. She'll be back in just a couple weeks to teach this Fall as well.
