Path of Positivity New Challenge Card

 

I am all about spreading positivity in the world. Right now, a very close friend needs support with things going on in her life. I'm sending her love with this card, which is designed using the Path of Positivity challenge blog's Mood Board.

I had the perfect papers and "accessories" for this card, but it looked very dull. So for a little color, I added lilac cardstock and was happy. The sentiment is from Scribbles Designs. After framing it, I added the bow. Still so plain! So I rummaged thru my lace leftovers and adhesive bling and found things to complement the card design. I like it and I hope my friend will feel the love.

My Muse continues to inspire me in both card making and doodling. Today I have a card that features a Scribbles Designs freebie. It's called #F185  Woolley Wink. Even though I spent 8 years (and had my son) in southern Missouri, I am definitely a city girl. I didn't know the difference between a lamb and a sheep. Do you? The answer is at the end of my post.

Meanwhile, I doodled the image I chose instead of coloring it with my Copic markers. That's a switch for me. Usually I doodle around images. I had a lot of fun doodling Woolley. The Scribbles Design store has some wonderful Zen design images for sale. My favorite is actually listed in the Cats category. It's called #A87 Peek-a-Boo - check it out HERE.

Back to my card. I printed out the digital image, fussy-cut it and doodled all her lovely curls. I tried several different backgrounds, but found my favorite from a page in a decor magazine. I found two pages of small rugs in a color scheme I liked. After playing with their placement, I decided to make a color block background, highlighting the edges with black ink. 

I used cardstock letters to spell out my take on the word Unique, and gave it a tiny bit of bling with a few leftover strips of adhesive-backed pearls. I even dotted the "I" in ewe-nique with a pearl. I finished my card off with a thin strip of gold washi tape around the edges, and I now have a card for my cousin. Hmm, now that I look at it, I think I'll re-place the word "ewe" as it looks too crowded to the rest of the letters...

Quill Power

 

Today's post features a Hedgehog using a Scribbles Designs digital image. After coloring my buddy with a light pink Copic, I pulled out my container of paper flowers and arranged them on my hedgehog's body. Afterward, I realized I wanted to create a background, and to do so, I had to remove all those tiny flowers! 

Once I drew and colored the flowers and grass. I adhered the flowers onto my pet (again) and then adhered her onto my new background. I found a cute hedgehog quote on Pinterest, but then thought to  add the "disclaimer" at the bottom. It reads, "not really. I walked thru the flowers, got scared and came out this way." Those quills are pointy and sticky, aren't they?!

Look at That! I Made a Card!

 

After several months of having "card block" I finally created a happy winter card using a freebie image from Scribbles Designs. It's called Penguin Pals #264 and can be found on the Scribbles Challenge Blog, where the newest challenge is to feature at least one penguin on your project.

I loved the image so much, I printed it several times, flipping it around and even changing the size slightly. Then I had to use multiple colors for my pals, whether they were realistic or not. You'll even find a few of them inside my card, which is a pop-up.

I am so happy that Sandy, the SD designer, and the DT team, inspired me to create a card after all this time!

Anything Goes at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog

The most difficult part about the last few months is missing my friends. It's one thing to text and call, but a totally different matter when you can't get that hug, or taking a long car ride together, or thrifting our way through the stores. So when this month's challenge theme at Scribbles Designs let us choose our own theme, I naturally thought of friendship.
I've sent quite a few (dozen) handmade cards in the mail and dropped off at my neighbors and left for the letter carriers. Here's one of the cards I made (when I say one, I mean two; after all, it's just as easy to make 2 at once). It features a Scribbles Designs' image called Envelopes 2.(p.s. It's a freebie) I think they work great as pockets, don't you? Because I had a perfect sentiment from a rubber stamp set from Stampin Up, "Friends are like pockets...you can never have too many." 
I found a roll of teal-colored burlap while cleaning and organizing my craft supplies, and made it my background for the Copic-colored image and the sentiment. All I needed to finish off my card was a strip of cording and something at the top of it and I was finished. Well, except for my second image, which I colored and created a very similar card.

Success on the Path of Positivity

My card today represents the lifetime of hard work and practice it took these holiday penguins to successfully perform their pyramid. But you know what they say, "fall seven times, get up eight". I get it. I have plenty of colored images that were failures, canvases and water colors that went into the trash.
But I haven't stopped crafting and creating art. I'm learning from these failures so that I can build that knowledge and experience into Successes. Note the background paper. It's upside down, which, after looking at it, I decided to keep my mistake because they kind of look like multi-colored trees, thereby turning it into another Success. The image is  from Scribbles Designs and is called  #244 Penguin Pyramid.
So I guess you have figured out by now that the optional theme this month at the Path of Positivity Challenge blog is SUCCESS. Here are the details of the challenge:

Flipping Coins at Scribbles Designs

My card today is created with a Scribbles digi called #417 Dog Bone. I have a box of craft supplies that have not yet been organized,and have been pulling out images,papers and embellishments from it and creating cards all week. I was tired of coloring realistic looking animals, so I started coloring dogs and cats crazy colors, like teal and even rainbow. But I found everything I needed for my project here, even the envelope, even though it was a real challenge this month to create a card from the box. That's because Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog has a fresh, entertaining theme for crafters,
Do you have a coin? Don't worry, you can keep it! You will need it to play along by flipping it FIVE times to discover how you will create your project this month for Scribbles. Talk about improvisation!!

Are you ready? Every time you flip the coin, it should land either heads or tails. The chart below has FIVE rows, with both a HEADS and a TAILS column. Your first flip reveals which column you will use in the first row. For example, I rolled TAILS, so I "created a card/project with at least 3 layers. Flip again and find out if you need  to (HEADS) make a rectangle or square card/project or (TAILS) make a shaped card/project. Keep flipping and you have the "recipe" for your project. Multi-Generational Baby Quilt

When I was growing up, my sisters and I would spend the weekend with our grandparents every month or so. During those weekends, Gram taught us how to make bread (no bread machines back then). She also taught me to sew on her 1929 Singer sewing machine, as well as crochet and embroider.
When I got married, Gram presented me, the oldest granddaughter and first married, with a handmade baby quilt. Each grandchild eventually received one, as well as her son (who was only  four years older than I. Since he lost his wife before they had  kids, he gave me his). That was over 40 years ago, and my daughter's quilt was looking the worse for wear. Each hand-embroidered panel was disintegrating.

So, throughout this stay-at-home order, among many other projects, I embroidered four panels necessary to replace the shredded ones. I finally finished it!! Instead of tracing pages from a children's coloring book like my Gram did, I used digital images from Tiddly Inks for two of them.

It took me weeks to embroider the animals, as I haven't touched a needle in years. I was going to add the panels to the blanket by hand-stitching, but soon gave up on that. It still took me longer than usual, since my machine was inherited from a friend's mom. It looks like it's from the 1960's, but I got it cleaned and oiled. Of course, I hadn't sewed on a machine longer than I hadn't used a needle. But I persevered,and I think my Gram would be proud.

Will It Be Brads, Buttons or Bows??

We're finally seeing nice weather, and flowers are starting to show off their colors. Trees are budding, bushes blooming, grass is growing and I am sneezing. Don't you just love seasonal allergies?! But I do so love the colors of late Spring.
Hopefully my card captures some of Spring's fashion show. I used flower buttons floating in a sea of green, while my bunny, an image from Scribbles Designs, is hopping with joy. The digi is called #408 B Bunny Joy, which I colored with my Copics. My background was created with a paper from CTMH and torn pieces of cardstock in two different shades of green.  The sentiment inside is from a rubber stamp and reads:

"May your day bloom

with wonderful surprises"

Today marks the midpoint of Scribbles Designs newest challenge, "Brads, Buttons or Bows". Obviously, I chose buttons, but you can use any or all to use on your project. And it doesn't have to be a card. Use your imagination, try something new, have FUN! Carl Sings His Way into My Heart

My sister gave me a planner this weekend. Not that I'm going to  use it as a planner. I just can't get enough journals - gratitude, travel, spiritual, creative, art - I even have a journal just for  random lists! Today's project is going to be an art journal. I was inspired by Carl, a digital character from Scribbles Designs. I love Carl, and have many of his images in all sorts of moods and actions. It's like he's my favorite model.
Right now he's singing me a song of inspiration. I have a bucket of Washi tape, and haven't used some in a long time, so his song stirred my need to put the tape to good use. First, I covered the cover with diagonal strips. Then I followed a tutorial to create feathers from Washi tape, which I placed at the top of my cover, and added a button to the trio which reads, "Be the change you want to see in the world." (Really, it's a wonder what I can find now that I've organized and labeled my craft supplies!)
I finished off the  cover with my name, my Muse (Carl, of course, colored with Copics and colored pencils), and then added some lace, leather beads and baubles to the spine. I couldn't wait to dig into the journal and have filled two pages already!

Birthday Card for My Little Sister

I created a birthday card this month for my sister. She is the youngest of three (yes, I'm the oldest). In the last few years,we have grown so much closer. Between losing my husband, and mom moving in with her, we have reached out to each other for support, advice, help, hugs, shoulders to cry on and laughter breaks.
Although I have a shoe box full of cards already made, she deserves a brand new card. I colored an image from Scribbles Designs, actually, several images, that I've put together before. I just love the combination of the birthday greeting and the cake with my favorite characters from the Scribbles Store.
Since doing a MAJOR clean-out of my craft supplies, including papers, I still have a box or four of leftovers. I decided to make my card with just the supplies in the box. You may just see more cards using supplies that are "out of the box".  For example, the red paper framing my patterned paper has a big hole it it, which is covered up by my Scribbles image.
Anyway, enjoy the nicer weather!

Inspiration from Scribbles Designs

Today I'm updating my progress on my Gram's baby blanket. She made it 40 years ago and some of the panels she embroidered are falling apart, so during this time of self-isolation, I am embroidering replacement panels. The one above is taken from a digital image from Scribbles Designs called #503 Duck.
I traced the image onto a piece of cotton and then embroidered  with floss. When I get all the panels finished that I need, I'll sew them onto the damaged ones. The blanket as it now stands is below.

Scribbles Designs has some amazing digital images which can be used on digital projects as well as on paper, mixed media, and obviously, sewing projects, as well as whatever your imagination can come up with. Have fun at the Store!!

Scribbles Designs is Ready for the Holidays

Today I reached a milestone - I finished this year's Christmas card stash! This one and other cards I've made after December 1 are being hand-delivered. AS you may have guessed, the new challenge theme at Scribbles Designs is "Getting Ready for Christmas.
And what better way to get ready is to decorate the tree? My card features a lovely selection of Christmas balls, ready to hang. The Scribbles Designs' images I used are  #889 Mason Jar, and a Friday Freebie, Ornaments. I chose the Decosse's Dynamite Designs paper before I colored my images, so the paper set my monochromatic vision. Color-blocking seemed to fit the card nicely, with a few lines of adhesive jewels and some rub-on holiday greetings.

One Last Card

This month is crazy busy,  but I still wanted to let you know that the 12 Months of Christmas has one last challenge for 2019.  The guest sponsor is Scribbles Designs, and I used a digi image from the store called #0133 Melting For to create my card.
Actually, the DT has this month off, but I wanted to feature a card using our sponsor's image. My card was originally posted in January of 2017. I printed my word art image onto colored cardstock, using papers from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles.

For the Guys at Scribbles Designs

Today I created this card for the challenge at Scribbles Designs. The theme is For the Guys, and I just had to make mine humorous. I used a digi image from the Scribbles Designs Store called Snow Sign and placed it directly onto a scenic paper from the Nature of Christmas Paper Kit from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles before printing it up.

My image needed minimal coloring, but I did use Copics and gel pen on the image, sentiment and paper. I tossed a few glittery snowflakes and a row of pearls for embellishments and there you have it. Got to give it to "him" - it's a very clever way to get out of shoveling that white stuff, don't you think? LOL

Thankful for Good Friends on the Path of Positivity

When my son got married, her parents and my husband and I started a friendship that, just like marriage, became stronger as time went by. We even took a cruise together before hubby became too sick to travel. He's gone now, but I'm so thankful that we have and continue to get along so well together.
I'm also thankful for being able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this month. I created this card for them using a digi image from Scribbles Designs, one of the guest sponsors for the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog. The image is called Champagne Glasses, and it's a FREEBIE! I used Copics to color the image and pulled out all the gold papers and embellishments I could find from my stash to create the rest of the card..

 I decorated both faces on the inside of the card as well as the front. I found the perfect quote (top) and an awesome poem to congratulate them. The font I used is called Violetta.

I am sure they will like the card, as Toni (the other MIL) is a frequent customer when it comes to cards. In fact, she was over the moon last Christmas when she opened her gift from me - a dozen handmade cards.

It's a Guy Thing at Scribbles Designs

Today's DT project is inspired by the theme at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog. Crafters are asked to create something "FOR THE BOYS." I've had this piece of metal forever, it seems, and was inspired to create a sign for the backyard grill. We have a natural gas grill, so we've been known to grill throughout the winter (except when it's buried under a foot of snow). LOL

My sign is a little bit bigger than a US car license plate. I colored a cute digi image from the Scribbles Store called #920 BBQ Apron. The words are made from black glitter letters and I used Washi tape to make a border on each side. I dug deep to find some BBQ-themed buttons, using tiny gears from Tim Holtz. The rope came from my garage and adhered with a glue gun.

It's midway through the new challenge at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog, and I'm just rolling along with the optional theme of "Using Kraft Paper". Today my card uses 2 pieces of Kraft paper I found in my stash, one plain that I used for my card base, and a patterned piece that creates the scene for the images I used. They're from Scribbles Designs and called #900 Truck and #917 Coffee.

I popped a photo of me in the driver's seat of the truck, hauling my morning coffee home. When it comes to coffee, size DOES matter!! LOL Especially when I have a ton of stuff to do for the day!

I hope my card has inspired you to try out some Kraft paper. I don't use it very often, if ever. I was lucky when I found the paper in my stash! But the card turned out well, I think. Curiouser and Curiouser at the Path of Positivity

Hello, crafters! Curious as to what I've created today? Well, funny you should ask, as Curiosity is the optional twist this month at the Path of Positivity challenge blog. When we are very young, we have an insatiable curiosity of what things are, how they work, if they taste good, how they feel, what they're for, etc. Too bad most of us grow up losing that endless curiosity.
You'll find the same attitude in pets, like puppies and kittens. Everything is new to them. There is a saying that "Curiosity killed the cat." Lucky we aren't cats, isn't it?
My card today features a Scribbles Designs digi image called Dog with Bone. Puppies are especially fearless, being more interested in satisfying their curiosity than worrying about things like effort, fear or judgment. He's just happy to have discovered a bone in his exploration, and if he hadn't found the bone, he would have been almost as happy finding something else to occupy his attention. I think I've used the perfect sentiment, printed in Nubian Shadow font and colored, as is my image, with Copics.

Getting Kraft-y at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog

Welcome to a new challenge at Scribbles Designs! This month the theme is to us KRAFT PAPER. I'm not a fan of Kraft paper, but I dug deep in my paper stash and found a piece of Kraft paper with a wood-grain design. I felt more at ease. Besides, themes are meant to challenge a person...
Anyway, I used 2 images from the Scribbles Store. They are called F#08  Acorn (a Freebie) and F#93 Nut and Bolt (another freebie). I only used the nut, because, well, read the sentiment on  my card! LOL
This is a fun friendship card (or anniversary card) for any couple. It's for a friend who needs some cheering up. I'm seeing her this week, so I won't have to mail it. After coloring the 2 nuts, I popped them onto a piece of Kraft paper, framing them first with a black paper doily. I drew on faces myself, as well as their hands holding. And yes, the sentiment is supposed to be tilted, just like our friendship!
I embellished simply with a couple banner stickers and my card is finished. Are you inspired to create something with Kraft paper?
