31 Days of All Hallows Eve - Day 25 - Day of the Dead

 

Today's project is a re-do from one I created last year. Evidently the bin I had placed my DIY Halloween decorations wasn't closed properly and some of them got ruined or needed emergency care. This is one that I salvaged, scraping off the old and adhering a new felt Day of the Dead skull. I added new ribbon, flowers and gems to freshen it up.

Did you know that, here in the States, Halloween is almost neck to neck with the Christmas holidays when it comes to decorations and parties?!

Will It Be Brads, Buttons or Bows??

We're finally seeing nice weather, and flowers are starting to show off their colors. Trees are budding, bushes blooming, grass is growing and I am sneezing. Don't you just love seasonal allergies?! But I do so love the colors of late Spring.
Hopefully my card captures some of Spring's fashion show. I used flower buttons floating in a sea of green, while my bunny, an image from Scribbles Designs, is hopping with joy. The digi is called #408 B Bunny Joy, which I colored with my Copics. My background was created with a paper from CTMH and torn pieces of cardstock in two different shades of green.  The sentiment inside is from a rubber stamp and reads:

"May your day bloom

with wonderful surprises"

Today marks the midpoint of Scribbles Designs newest challenge, "Brads, Buttons or Bows". Obviously, I chose buttons, but you can use any or all to use on your project. Time to Relax at the Path of Positivity

When I come home from a stressful day out, the first thing I do is turn on some music. It's time to wind down, relax and end my day on a good note. Relaxation is the optional Twist this month at the Path of Positivity challenge blog. The guest sponsor is Decosse's Dynamite Doodles, whose papers are featured on my card today. After choosing a Scribbles Designs image, I used cardstock to frame "Carlos Carl" after coloring him with Copics.

Then I went through my library of digital papers, most of which have come from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles. I chose the Sunburst patterned paper from A Taste of Summer paper kit, then a pink textured paper to frame the whole card. I chose 2 tiny frog stickers, a couple of black jewels and a bit of ribbon for embellishments, and printed a play on the words Buenos Noches, which in Spanish means Good Night. I wanted to give one of my friends a smile to relax her, as well the Peace & Calm CD set I bought her. She's gone from part-time to full-time work, and her days are hectic. What she needs is a smile from a friend (in my card) and a little relaxing mood music (in the CDs).

Holiday Humor at the 12 Months of Christmas Link-Up & Challenge Blog

Christmas time is a time of joy, of renewal, of family and friends, of food and faith. We all make plans and preparations for the perfect Christmas, but sometimes LIFE throws a pumpkin pie in our faces and we have to laugh. Some of the funniest times are during the holidays, which make for happy memories throughout the years. Like when Grandma laughed so hard at the dinner table her dentures fell into the mashed potatoes, or when your toddler spent more time and had more fun unwrapping the presents than the presents themselves (both were actual holiday events in my family).

Have youchecked out the new challenge at Ike's World Challenge blog? We're at the midway point in the TAG! YOU'RE IT challenge, and I created my DT make to inspire you. I colored up a digi image called Celebrate. You can get it at Ike's Art with or without the word Celebrate.
After designing my card and putting it together, I thought it looked a little lacking, so I added another tag after distressing it and adding faux stitches. I like this "double vision" look better, don't you? My girlfriend's birthday is coming up in October, and this tag will be attached to her present. Speaking of presents, I got a few craft kit goodies last week. I am stretching out of my comfort zone with leather working and wood projects. So far I've made a cool bracelet with charms out of leather, and have started to create a wooden pen.

Geometry at Ike's World ChallengeBlog

Did I scare you with that title?!It's just my way of telling you that the theme over at Ike's World Challenge blog is to make a square card and add a circle! Here's my DT make:

I colored up two digi images from Ike's Store, Flower Square and Butterfly. The square card was easy; to add a circle I used a circle cutter and cut out my butterfly, although its wings were left to fly. I am continuing to wage war with my stash. I can finally see a slight difference in my pile of papers.
I am unfortunately in need of sympathy cards, so I thought the images and my design would make a nice one.  when needed.I really like this combo of images and will make several more of the same so that I can have a healthy stash of cards. You can make whatever inspires you to create, just make sure it is square and includes a circle. I created my card with my daughter in mind. She has arachnophobia, a fear of spiders. Although she would be more like a runner, as in AWAY from the eight-legged nasty.I don't like spiders myself, but it's nothing to her fear.

My card showcases a digital delight called Karate Kevin. He reminds me of when my son took karate classes. He was in Kindergarten, but did so well that the instructor bumped him up to the next level, where he was the youngest student (and the shortest). When the class practiced moves from one side of the gym to another, the other students had to wait quite a while for Chase's shorter legs to catch up to them before they worked their way back to the starting point.
I stuck my hand in my stash and pulled out an envie of Asian ephemera and had my way with it all on my card. A couple rows of pearls, part of a ribbon and my ticket sentiment complete my card.

Furry and Funny is the Theme at the Outlawz Greetings

It's time to laugh out loud, or rather make us laugh out loud at the Outlawz Monday Greetings this week. The theme is Furry and Funny. I created my card inspired by the old saying "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
The image is called "Trotsky" and is from one of our sponsors, Dr. Digi. There are loads of funny, sweet and funky images at Dr Digi's Shop.

I've started digging deep into my stash of leftover papers (I'm finally making some headway in the paper chase that is my craft room). I pulled out some embossed cardstock and sanded it to pull out the white core of the paper. I had punched some dog prints while at my daughter-in-law's house a couple months ago and lo and behold I found them! LOL They make a nice border for my image.
Instead of tying a bow with my ribbon, I twisted it, then stapled it to hold together. I like the look-something different. A star hides the staple.

My next project is an altered candy container, shaped like a house.

The image I used is from QKR, and it's called "This Much." I colored my bunny with Copics before popping him onto my Easter candy container. You know, most people think of a candy house and think of the witch in the story Hansel and Gretel. But never fear, my bunny is not planning to fatten you up & eat you. No wait, he is beckoning you to "enter" his house and help yourself to some candy, so I guess you could say he is planning to fatten you up...hmmm, I'm sure he doesn't plan on eating you later. But you'd better not take the chance. Just leave all the candy for me (mwahahahaha).

It's Quirky Raining Cats & Dogs This Month

In the northern half of the globe, April is a month of warmer weather and rain showers. Well, the Quirky Challenges blog has put a quirky spin on the showers. This month's theme is "It's Raining Cats & Dogs," Show us a project with a cat or dog or both!
This month's sponsor is Crackerbox Palace. They offer a wide variety of wood-backed rubber stamps. I got to play with a stamp called Hang on Cat. As soon as I saw it, I knew it related to how I felt eery Monday. Although...now I have Mondays off, so this would be how I feel on Tuesdays. But I'm not sending a card to myself, so most people will relate to the "Monday attitude." LOL
While at my local thrift store, I snagged an almost full paper pad of cat/dog patterned paper from DCWV for 50 cents. So I popped a piece onto a stitched card face, hung my cat, and added my sentiment and some ribbon.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

 I was commissioned to create an anniversary card for a friend. Her friends are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary later this month. Wow! That's a log time being married to the same person. So I had to make a card worthy of their evidence of love for each other. I am not the best "florist", maybe because I have allergies and they sometimes "leak" into my crafting. But today I think I brazened past my subconscious barrier and created a nice spray on my card.

Of course, the sentiment is very important for this very special occasion. I found one on Pinterest and framed it before adding to the inside of my card. I embellished with gold, jeweled rings, and the tiny white box is for my client's signature.
So, a chunky card needs a box envelope, so I pulled out my Ultimate Crafter's Companion and Envelope Creator to make it. Below is the front of my card with a detachable tag.

 Here is the back of my box envelope. The flap has a small Velcro fastener to keep the box closed.

So there is my commissioned card for a 50th anniversary celebration. Everything I used came out of my stash, which follows my 2016 crafting resolution of using up my stuff. My favorite find is the gold button with chain swag that covers the Velcro fastening.
Now I hope my friend is as happy with the card as I am!

It's Raining Quirky Cats & Dogs

Welcome back to another Quirky challenge! This month you are asked to create something with a  Cats & Dogs theme. Our sponsor is Crackerbox Palace Digital Stamps.

I got to play with an image called "Peeking Cat." I colored my kitty with Copics, then added her onto my card face. A simple ribbon border and jeweled flourishes decorate my card. I printed my sentiment in Adobe Photoshop using Butch font from the Hungry Jpeg.

Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog Has a Song in Its Heart

Welcome to the midway point of Scribbles Designs challenge blog's Song in Your Heart challenge! I am such a lucky bunny to have been asked to join the Scribbles Design Team. My first DT make was inspired by the song "The Candy Man", introduced in the 1971 movie called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. The song became so popular it made it to number one on national radio, sung by Sammy Davis, Jr.

I remembered when the movie went to TV for the first time. I was in the US Army, 54th Military Police Company. I was visiting the Day Room at my (soon-to-be) hubby's barracks. The room was a lounge of sorts for all the guys and their guests to hang out. I'll never forget that as the movie Willy Wonka" came on, there were at least 20 guys watching it! Although I enjoyed reading Roald Dahl's book on which the movie was (very loosely) based, I like the original more than the remake with (sigh) Johnny Depp.
Alright, back from my trip down memory lane, let's look at my card - I created the background with alcohol inks on glossy paper. I used dimensional dots to pop my Copic-colored image, called Bunny Bum, onto my card.

I found the poem on Quote Garden and used my Epic Six to die-cut the frame around it. I embellished simply with a line of adhesive-backed pearls and a bit of ribbon.

A New Year Brings a New Challenge at Quirky Crafts

Oh what fun it is to Celebrate a birthday, especially when your cake is almost as big as you are! My girlfriend had a baby boy last year and it is coming up on his birthday, so this digital image from Stitchy Bear, called BBKakes Birthday Boy 1, is perfect for the child's personality. He's not afraid of getting a little messy, especially if the mess is made of sugar!!
Welcome to Quirky Crafts new challenge, the first in 2016. With the New Year comes changes, and I am one of them, being blessed to have been invited to create as a DT member. Another change is that Quirky challenges will now be monthly, starting on the first Sunday of each month.
So to start the new challenge, the theme is Celebrations! Make your card something to celebrate or to give in celebration of something-and don't forget to use the words celebrate or celebration on your card. I colored my Stitchy Bear digi with Copics, while the embossed sentiment on the left is from Stampin Up!
In keeping with my promise to use up my stash, everything on my card was a leftover piece of paper, ribbon, letters, even the feather was from a container I had stashed away in my craft closet! A Christmas Melody for You

Christmas is so close you can practically touch it!! Are you ready?? I know that at least my Christmas card stash is complete. Cards mailed out and family cards in their envies, all snug and ready to be torn open in the heat of the moment. Now I'm onto January cards and the whole winter scene for the Outlawz Monday Greetings challenge just starting today. We want to see what a holiday movie inspires you to create. I was inspired by the new Mariah Carey movie "A Christmas Melody."
I used a digi image from Art by Miran, who happens to be this week's sponsor at the Outlawz Greetings challenge. The image is called "Pop Star Diva" and can be found at her Etsy Store. It doesn't photograph well, but the background is embossed with glittery shimmery powders in blue and silver, just like the snow that falls outside my house in winter.

I wanted a card I could easily mail so, while I loaded up my card with elements and embellishments, it still remains relatively flat. I started with a handmade flower made with torn pieces of newspaper, then inked and shimmer sprayed it. The Christmas tree is a die-cut, and the star is "glitterized". My border is made up of ribbon and lace.
My dainty little girl is colored with Copics and her wings have been doused in very fine glitter so she is ready to dance with happiness and then fly off should anyone interrupt her.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Once upon a time, there were three bears-papa bear, mama bear and baby bear. They wanted a larger family, but mama bear couldn't have any more babies. They decided to adopt a little blond-haired, blue-eyed girl. They loved her and she was very happy with her new family, but there were many who didn't think it was proper to adopt outside of one's own species. Luckily, the Bear family, as well as their newest member, Goldilocks Bear, were thankful for the chance to be a happy family, which is all that mattered. The world needs more love and happiness, after all, don't you think?

I was inspired today to create another page in my acrylic album. This time I used a digital image from Ike's Art called Goldilocks. I used it for my DT project over at Ike's World Challenge blog, where the theme is Childhood.
I colored and fussy-cut my image, then framed it onto my page, ever mindful that the pages are clear. Whatever I place on this page will be seen from the back on the next page. Besides all my  lovely embellishments, my sentiment reads: "There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million." It's a quote by Walt Streightiff.

Tag You're It!

Hello, crafters! I was lucky enough to discover a Card Trading Club practically in my own back yard. The women who belong to the club, which I found out about at my lss, invited me to join, and I have been able to make most meetings. This week, instead of cards, the trade is Christmas Tags.
Everyone brings in 16 baggies of 6 tags to pass along, kind of like a Cookie Exchange Night.

I remembered this week's meeting a couple days ago, and I was under the gun to produce almost 100 tags for the exchange, but as you can see, I persevered! LOL

I used Christmas patterned papers from my stash and my Creative Memories border punch system to make the lovely Christmas Tree cutouts on my tags. Adding a folded pieces of ribbon and some pearls and snowflakes, I added a stamped sentiment "To: From:" after inking the sides of my tags.
I can't believe I finished all these tags in less than two days of available crafting time! Of course, they are very CAS, but I like the way they turned out, and hope my fellow club members like them.
I can't wait to see all the tags tomorrow night!!
