Today's project reflects the theme of Perseverance at the Path of Positivity challenge blog. I got to play with a digi image from Ike's Art and was inspired to create a mixed media canvas.
In the U.S., It took over a hundred years for the pilgrims to settle in to their new home, claim and win their independence as their own country. It took another hundred years to abolish slavery. It took another sixty year after that for women to win their right to vote. Add another 40 years for the civil rights movement to make any headway.
All this was accomplished by the perseverance of strong, focused individuals who came together when they recognized injustice in the American way of life. Perseverance is forward-thinking and forward-movement. It is planning and working toward the summit of your goals and continuing on your path despite stumbling or drifting. Perseverance is resting but not quitting.
At this moment in time, especially in the U.S., another group is finally seeing the results of their own perseverance in their right to marry. I am, of course, talking about Gay marriages, and their
legality, especially when it comes to insurance, inheritance and other civil
benefits.
I am not affected by this decision, as I am happily married to my husband Bill for almost 39 years. I am, however, an advocate of personal and civil rights. I have friends and family who are directly affected by these rights and are suffering but persevering through the process. I applaud them, I support them, and I love them.
I love that ART is shaped and colored by our feelings, beliefs, dreams, nightmares and passions. It can pull these same feelings in those who look at an artist's creation. I had been painting n another project andabsent-mindedly dipped the brush into some of my homemade ModgePodge to seal the very porous canvas material of today's project. The colors on my brush mixed with the Mod Podge and onto my canvas and I really like the background it provided.
I framed my Copic-colored image, called "I Do - Female," with a homemade shimmer-misted paper doily. Then I placed my sentiment, "Free to Marry" before adding the roses. I embellished with loose glitter, metallic sticker hearts and a 3D sentiment sticker.
The Path of Positivity is a challenge blog that promotes positive words and art benefiting those in all walks of life. It is "a place to come especially on those days when the woes of the world just seem too much to bear."

Brilliant canvas and for a great reason! The image is fab, and I like the size and landscape layout too. Thanks for sharing with us at Rhedd's Creative Spirit ~ Steffi :o) xx
Gorgeous use of one of Ike's images. So beautifully done. Not sure if this really fits our theme at Smudgy antics.... projects are supposed to be 'alternative'... dark.... macabre etc...i suppose it fits 'alternative' at the moment... although I hope one day same sex marriages are classed as 'normal'. Thank you for sharing with us at Smudgy antics this month...hope to see you again in June. BDx
