Birthday Cards Today

 

Today I'm showcasing the birthday cards I made from the misc. stash leftovers I've been cleaning out, organizing and donating. Again, I mostly used die-cuts and a few pre-colored images I had from leftover projects. It was a quick and satisfying chore. 

I also managed to go through a few small tubs of trading cards o take to Geek Toys, whose owner bought a nice amount from me earlier in the year. They are all from my mom, bless her soul. She loved non-sport trading cards, especially of her favorite sci-fi shows, like Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Stargate. Unfortunately, they didn't generate as much cash as I had hoped, but I got rid of another bin taking up room in my basement. Yay me!

I have another appointment with my Whole Health coach. I'll continue to work on decluttering my craft supplies (Lord knows I have enough to keep me busy for another few weeks). My next target is punches and scissors and wooden-block stamps. But I'm seriously trying to get my A1C numbers down as well as cholesterol, which ties in with weight loss. Luckily, I have access to a dietician, kinesiologist and my very own spin bike (okay, the spin bike is an old Schwinn without a working display, but I can still pedal).

What Do You Give a 102 Year Old Grandma?!

Every Christmas for the last 8 or so years, my present to my Grandma has been a box full of handmade Birthday cards, one for every member of the family--stuffed in envies, labeled with names and placed in in calendar order.

Seeing as she is 102 years old, there isn't much that I can buy for her.  She can't read or sew or do her puzzles any more because of macular degeneration in hr eyes.  She has no interest in TV because her hearing is so bad, so no DVDs or even family movies.  She doesn't get out of the house much--gets tired from the house to the car, so gift certificates for restaurants are out.

But the first year I made her cards, she loved them, and has wanted them since.  I think if I got her something else, she'd miss them!  I had to make a few more this year, after my son went and got married to a woman with four children.  I love them all to pieces and couldn't be happier with his soulmate.  But that's five more cards to make!  Lucky I have a little bit of a stash of cards to pick from, huh?!

Summer is Sizzling with Color

The season of summer is full of vibrant color.  The sky is a clear blue, the grass is a lush green, the sun burns white hot.  I love the pinks of summer flowers and slow sunsets.  

Squigglefly has a new challenge this week.  It's to use a Squigglefly digi image and your favorite summer color.  Not just use it, but make it the main color of your card, in all its shades and tints.

So I took my love for summer pink and made a card using a Squigglefly new release from artist Cheryl Alger called Sassy Sally Queen of Mean.  Isn't Sassy Sally too cute?  She looks a little disgruntled.  Maybe it's the heat.  We seem to be enjoying (?) a rather hot summer.  Or maybe her backyard pool sprung a little leak.  It could be a number of reasons, OR it could be nothing.  After all, she is the Queen of Mean!!

I came back from an all day crop on Saturday and knew that I had to do some cleaning, some cleaning out, and some organizing if I wanted to make this card.  So out came everything in my closet, which is the biggest craft catch-all in history!

While being totally ruthless, I found my stash of feathers.  And that humongous butterfly!  And a handful (okay, it was a stack about 2 inches thick) of patterned papers.

So after my closet was put to rights, after I threw out two trashcans full of garbage, after I placed the donation bag in the trunk of my car, after I set aside some items for my Yahoo Group members...I made this card!
