Let's Be Honest, Shall We?

I have seen the most amazingly organized craft areas on blogger and pinterest.  My heart aches every time I see something that would work so well in my own area of creativity.
But I don't have the (financial) support of my hubby when it comes to my hobby.  Every single organizational piece that is in my craft room has been gleaned from clearance bins, rummage sales and hand-me-downs.
I think I have done an amazing job getting my craft supplies in order, concealed and catalogued.  But...
to be honest (and you can see the honesty in my photo), I am the sloppiest crafter in the known universe.  Believe me, I have tried to "clean as I craft" but honestly, when the muse strikes, it is like an electrical shock.  I can't stop until it leaves me, and when it does, I am exhausted.
I will do a cursory clean up--the tape in its container, the markers (my precious) in their bins--but as you can see, it is like one step forward, three steps back!  And who wants to spend all their precious creative time (freedom) cleaning when they could be crafting?  Don't we as women do the brunt of the cleaning anyway?
It has taken me a few years, but I am to the point that I don't care what my craft room looks like at most times.  I can craft with the best of them.  And my harshest critic is of course myself!
But I DO envy those crafters and artists who have the money to make their crafting space look like something out of a magazine (sigh).

Do you have anything to say when it comes to Honesty?  There is a very empowering blog called The Path of Positivity that tries to "inspire, nurture and provide support for the soul by creating a positive path to follow, one project or post at a time."  They have monthly challenges and crafters and writers are invited to post about the month's theme.  Each entrant has a chance to win some lovely prizes for their efforts to "spread the love."

Pat, I could not help but to comment on your post here. You are amazing! I love what you have done...you have really revealed your soul here in so many ways. You have opened the door to really being known (honesty), you have shown us your craft room (honesty) you have told us your financial situation as regards the lack support from hubs (honesty) and even with all this you stay as up and positive and wonderful as ever! I am in awe of you Pat! Your work is so lovely (and congrats on your win last week!!!) and your soul is beautiful and we are blessed to have you playing our challenges and bringing your energy and your wonderful posts about our challenge to our site. hee hee hee Good for you to admit to not having a clean desk!!! You need to check out the WOYWW posts... it's done on stamping ground and it's crafters sharing a picture or pictures of their craft space every Wednesday. You will realize that a lot of us don't have clean desk... me included lol and like you I much prefer to craft than to clean (house included...)

Thanks for joining our monthly challenge here at Path of Positivity challenge. Hope you will join us next time. DT Crafting Vicky I have some candy on my blog ;o) http://crafting-vicky.blogspot.ca/2013/09/400-followers-giveaway.html

Wow! Pat, for a moment I thought someone had sneaked into my house and taken a photo of my craft space. I work in exactly the same way. I think it's how our minds work, always leaping quickly forward on to the next part of the project. But doesn't make you feel good when some thing you are pleased with emerges from the chaos.

I landed on your blog from Vicky's and recognised the picture straightaway.

Your work space look very organised to me and its wonderful that you are actually recycling items for your organisation items and saving the planet at the same time. This is so perfect for our HONESTY theme this month. Thanks for sharing your talent with us and good luck.

Well if you are the "sloppiest crafter in the known universe", then I am apparently your long lost twin. Now thankfully, I have a husband who supports me as much as he can but overall we don't have much money to spend on extraneous items so I can't just go out and purchase what I need. I do have a lot of things that I've managed to pick up over the years but to be honest most of it comes from the dollar store and I certainly don't have everything I need. Part of the problem is spacing. Our home is not conducive to my having a crafting room all on my own so I am sort of spread out over three different levels. Time is another factor, when inspiration hits, everything gets dragged out so I can find what I need to put it all together and then I'm so excited to get started, I never put anything away. It took guts to expose your mess to the world. kudos to you!

You continue to be such an ambassador for our challenge, and we at the Path of Positivity are always inspired by what you enter.

Oh, I totally agree with you and anyway... it's not messy, it's an inspiration station and a sign of a crafty mind :-D I am sorry that your H does not support your hobby. :-(
Thank you for sharing with us again at PoP in our Honesty Challenge.

You are far braver than me posting you craft area lol - you know, I think those who are less concerned with keeping everything in the right drawer, prettily painted to coordinate etc and have just what they need at hand to make a project (purchased I mean) end up being less creative in the long run and churn out the same looking items all the time. I am in Saudi so there is nothing here to buy anyway in the craft world, bits of material, some gems, no double sided tape, no glue dots, no foam tape, no decent card to work with, no card blanks etc. but all that means is one has to know the basic needed and then create, create, create lol. Fab story. Hugs Mimi xxxx
